Darmawangsyah Muin Sworn In as Gowa Regent, Prioritizes Debts and Back Pay

Darmawangsyah Muin was sworn in as Gowa's regent on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, to serve the remainder of the 2025–2030 term. Speaking after his inauguration, he said settling the region's outstanding obligations this year would come before accelerating priority development programs.

Succession and oath of office

Muin replaces Sitti Husniah Talenrang, who was removed from office by the Supreme Court, according to detikSulsel.

South Sulawesi Governor Andi Sudirman Sulaiman administered the oath and led the inauguration on behalf of the president at Aula Asta Cita, the governor's official residence. The appointment was based on a Ministry of Home Affairs decree dated October 27, 2026, detikSulsel reported.

Debt repayments and overdue salaries

Muin said the government must pay off the region's 2025–2026 debts by the end of this year. He also identified salaries, honoraria and payments to government contract workers, known as PPPK, as immediate priorities, according to detikSulsel.

Among the outstanding payments are salaries for RT/RW neighborhood and community unit heads, which Muin said had gone unpaid for about seven months. He plans to issue a regent's regulation to address those arrears.

Development priorities in the 2027 budget

ANTARA reported that Muin intends to accelerate development programs in line with his administration's vision and mission and Gowa's medium-term development plan, known as the RPJMD, after addressing this year's obligations.

The Gowa government and the regional legislature, the DPRD, were drafting the 2027 regional budget, or APBD 2027. Priority programs in the RPJMD are to be advanced early next year, according to detikSulsel.
