Floods Hit 15 Villages and Disrupt Roads in Aceh's Nagan Raya

A week of torrential rain has left 15 villages across two districts of Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh, flooded to depths exceeding 30 centimeters. National and provincial roads were also inundated, while officials reported that water was starting to recede from some residential areas.

Residents affected as two rivers overflow

Irfanda Rinaldi, head of the Nagan Raya Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), told Antara on Sunday, November 1, 2026, that the weeklong downpour had caused the flooding. He said the Krueng Lamie and Krueng Tripa rivers had overflowed into nearby neighborhoods.

The affected villages include Ujong Lamie, Kuta Trieng, Geulangang Gajah, Tuwi Buya, Ujung Lamie, Gunong Cut, and Suka Raja. In Tripa Makmur District, flooding reached Panten Pange, Ujong Krueng, Mon Dua, Neubok Yee PP, Neubok Yee PK, Pasi Kebeu Dom, Lueng Kebeu Jagat, and Kabu.

BPBD personnel and staff from other agencies were helping communities at flooded sites, Rinaldi said. Serambi Indonesia reported that no residents had been reported evacuating as of Sunday and that BPBD was continuing to monitor conditions.

Agus Salim, an official with BPBD Nagan Raya's Pusdalop, told Waspada.id that floodwater had begun receding by Sunday, although some residential areas remained underwater. The agency was assessing the damage. With skies still overcast, Salim warned that more rain could follow. BPBD also urged residents, particularly those along riverbanks, to remain alert for further extreme weather.

Flooding briefly halts traffic at Kuta Trieng

Both a national road and a provincial road were flooded, disrupting land transportation, according to BPBD Nagan Raya data reported by Serambi Indonesia on Sunday.

At Kuta Trieng in Darul Makmur District, overflow from the Krueng Tripa submerged the national road again on November 1. Traffic briefly came to a standstill at dawn, and police directed vehicles through the area. Water began receding around 8 a.m. WIB, allowing vehicles to pass, Serambi Indonesia reported.

The newspaper described flooding on this stretch as a recurring problem whenever heavy rain causes the Krueng Tripa to overflow. The same road segment had been inundated about two weeks earlier.

Earlier floods in Tripa Makmur

The November 1 flooding came less than a week after the Krueng Lamie submerged at least six villages in Tripa Makmur on Monday, October 26, 2026. District head Nasruddin told Theacehpost.com that water began entering settlements around 2 a.m. WIB.

Tripa Makmur also experienced flash flooding in late November 2025, documented in a 2026 community-service journal article by Handoko and colleagues in Jurnal Masyarakat Madani Indonesia. The authors linked the heavy rainfall to the Senyar cyclone anomaly and said it caused the Krueng Beutong and Krueng Tripa to overflow.

That event flooded many of the same villages, listed in the journal as Panton Pange, Ujong Krueng, Mon Dua, Neubok Yee PP, Neubok Yee PK, Pasie Kebeu Dom, Lueng Keube Jagat, and Kabu. Water in house yards reached depths of about 50 to 180 centimeters.

Bridge collapses in neighboring Aceh Barat

Waspada.id also reported flooding in neighboring Aceh Barat Regency. Heavy rain on Sunday night, November 1, 2026, caused a river in Sungai Mas District to surge, collapsing one suspension bridge and severely damaging one resident's house.
