Darwinbox Unveils Cortex AI-Native HCM Platform in Enterprise Software Push

Darwinbox, a global human capital management platform serving more than 1,400 enterprises and 4.5 million employees, has announced the launch of Darwinbox Cortex, positioning it as the first AI-native HCM platform rebuilt from the ground up for artificial intelligence integration.

The Hyderabad-based company, which achieved unicorn status in January 2022 with a $72 million Series D funding round, unveiled Cortex with pilot customers including Visteon Corporation and Transcarent, alongside technology partnerships with Microsoft, Slack, and Glean.

Unlike traditional HCM systems that add AI features to existing software, Cortex embeds intelligence into the platform's core architecture through what the company calls a Context Graph—a unified map of organizational structure, policies, workflows, and decisions that enables AI to reason and anticipate workforce needs.

Four-Layer Architecture Drives Platform

Cortex operates on four foundational layers that distinguish it from legacy systems. The Signal Layer continuously monitors patterns across employee data—including pay disparities, management changes, and engagement metrics—to flag risks and opportunities before they escalate. The Context Graph unifies system capabilities, organizational context, and HR expertise into a single reasoning layer accessible to both people and AI.

The Cortex Agent Platform enables rapid deployment of AI agents that can execute tasks within existing governance frameworks, while the Experience Layer delivers interactive experiences across Microsoft Teams, Co-pilot, Slack, and other workplace applications while preserving permissions and context.

Jayant Paleti, co-founder and co-CEO of Darwinbox, said the platform represents a departure from incremental evolution.

Legacy HCM with AI bolted on is still legacy. With Cortex, we reimagined the entire HCM experience from the ground up.

Enterprise Partners Test New Platform

Visteon Corporation, a global automotive technology company with $3.768 billion in net sales in 2025 and operations across 17 countries, serves as a launch partner for the platform. Kristin Trecker, chief people officer at Visteon, said the company views AI-native systems as essential for building organizational agility.

Transcarent, which completed a $621 million merger with health benefits platform Accolade in April 2025 and now serves over 20 million members, is also participating in the pilot program. Jennifer Trzepacz, chief people officer at Transcarent, emphasized alignment with the company's approach to using technology for improved employee experiences.

Market Position and Competition

The launch comes as Darwinbox seeks to establish itself in a competitive landscape dominated by Oracle, Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, and Microsoft. The company raised $140 million in March 2025 in a round co-led by Partners Group and KKR to accelerate global expansion, bringing total funding to over $280 million.

Darwinbox was recognized as a Challenger in the 2024 and 2025 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Cloud HCM Suites for enterprises with more than 1,000 employees, making it the youngest and only Asian-origin company in that category. In May 2026, Gartner named the company a Leader in its Magic Quadrant for Talent Acquisition Suites, positioning Darwinbox furthest for Completeness of Vision among evaluated vendors.

The global HCM market is projected to grow from approximately $37 billion in 2026 to between $55 billion and $76 billion by 2033-2034, according to multiple market research firms, with compound annual growth rates ranging from 7.9% to 10.4%.

Co-founder and co-CEO Chaitanya Peddi emphasized the architectural foundation underlying Cortex:

You can't reason well over something you can't see clearly. Most enterprise systems were never built to be understood by AI, so the intelligence stays on the surface. Cortex is the first HCM built on a Context Graph.

The company previously demonstrated AI leadership as the first HCM platform globally to launch a Model Context Protocol server in 2025, enabling interaction with any MCP-compatible AI agent deployed by customers.

Darwinbox, founded in 2015 by Chaitanya Peddi, Jayant Paleti, and Rohit Chennamaneni, maintains headquarters in Hyderabad with additional offices in Singapore and the United States. The company is backed by investors including KKR, Partners Group, OTPP, Microsoft, Salesforce Ventures, TCV, PeakXV Partners, and Lightspeed.

Information about joining the early access program is available on the Darwinbox Cortex website.
