Police Chief Pledges Medical Care Until Blok M Crash Victim Recovers
Indonesia's National Police Chief General Suyudi Ario Seto has pledged to cover medical treatment until recovery for Hasan Syukur, a 56-year-old motorcycle taxi driver run over by a BYD electric car in South Jakarta. Hasan's family says he has undergone surgery and needs dialysis following the crash.

Medical support and Hasan's condition
Suyudi announced the commitment on his personal Instagram account on October 27, 2026. "As a form of concern, the police guarantee all medical treatment for the victim until he fully recovers," he said.
He recommended transferring Hasan to RS Polri Kramat Jati for medical care, provided his condition permits. Suyudi also directed the head of the Police Medical Center and Metro Jaya Traffic Directorate officers to visit Hasan and offer moral and material assistance to his family. He said the police's role includes compassion and humanitarian assistance alongside law enforcement and maintaining order.
Hasan was treated in the intensive care unit at Fatmawati Hospital in South Jakarta, according to his wife, Rohayah, 53. She said he suffered a broken left leg and fractures extending from his shoulder area down to his back, and underwent surgery on the afternoon of October 24.
His son-in-law, Eko, said on October 26 that the crash had impaired Hasan's kidney function, making dialysis necessary. Hasan remained sedated and could not speak, Eko said.
Before the crash, Hasan had planned to visit his hometown of Ciomas in Serang Regency on October 25. Rohayah said his hospitalization forced him to postpone the trip.
Driver detained as police investigate
The crash occurred on October 23 on Jalan Panglima Polim in Blok M, Kebayoran Baru. The BYD struck four vehicles and ran over Hasan. Police initially identified the driver as S, 46; Kompas.id reported on October 26 that police had named him as Sunardi.
By October 26, police had designated Sunardi a suspect and detained him at the South Jakarta Metro Police while the investigation continued.
AKBP Muhammad Adiel Aristo, the Metro Jaya Traffic Directorate's sub-director for law enforcement, told Kompas.com on October 26 that Sunardi reported being drowsy and losing focus. According to Adiel, the driver said he briefly fell asleep, or experienced microsleep, before striking a Honda Brio to his right.
Adiel said Sunardi then panicked and pressed the accelerator while trying to brake, losing control as the car struck vehicles on either side. The BYD eventually mounted the sidewalk and stopped in front of the Amaris Hotel.
Adiel said the driver was not under the influence of narcotics or alcohol, citing two negative urine tests conducted by the local police station and regional police. He attributed the crash to drowsiness and falling asleep.
Police were also examining whether the BYD's accelerator and brakes had malfunctioned, Adiel said on October 26. That possibility remained under investigation alongside the driver's account.
Vehicles involved in the crash
South Jakarta Traffic Unit head Commissioner Mujiyanto identified the BYD as bearing license plate B 1220 KDP. The other vehicles involved included a Honda Brio, B 2967 NGY; Hasan's Honda Beat motorcycle, A 3867 DD; and a Wuling, B 1835 ERZ.
A Honda Mobilio with plate B 1247 WZK and a Toyota Nav1 with plate B 2447 TWB were also involved. Both were parked at the Amaris Hotel.
